When Jennifer Lawrence was announced to be Katniss, I was really disappointed. I thought “how were they gonna get her hair the perfect brown, she`s to pale, and could she pull off the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen?” The first time I saw Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss, I was surprised. She looked a little to orange and not enough olive, and still something felt off. Seeing as I had been waiting nearly 5 years for a movie to be made, I had very high expectations. Then came the trailer’s. When I saw the trailer I got really excited because I could see in part’s how Jlaw portrayed Katniss. Once I saw the movie I was completely blown away! I had done reading on her and fell in love with her, but when I saw how she acted as Katniss I was thrilled. She couldn’t have done better, and Gary Ross couldn’t have picked better. So this has prepared me for let-downs in the Catching Fire cast. Although looks are very important to me for the characters, they aren’t everything. How an actor or actress portrays the character could be all they need in order to win the HG fan base over.
Let’s start with Finnick, shall we? First off he is COMPLETELY not what I pictured! Everything from his jaw line, to ears, to mouth, hair, and nose, is wrong. I pictured a tan, muscular (not body builder muscular, but strong sea-god muscular), sexy, and brunette. I also wanted a person who could be vulnerable looking, and not just smoldering sexy. He has to be able to pull that off for parts like the jabberjay section of the arena, and pretty much the entire Mockingjay novel. And to top it off, I wondered if his american accent would fit how I thought he would sound? I didn’t have any actors in mind that would fit my idea of the perfect Finnick Odair, because.. well, there’s just so much that Finnick needs! I wasn’t as upset about the casting of Finnick as I was Katniss, because I learned not to judge an actor/ess by their costume (appearance). This is because they are actors! If they are a good actor, they should have no problem portraying a character, no matter what color their hair. Also, Jennifer Lawrence’s performance showed me to give Sam a chance. I am really excited to see how he plays up to the hype of the sexy, and vulnerable Finnick Odair.
Now on to Johanna. I didn’t think I would care much about who played Johanna till she got casted. I was surprised about how upset I was. I pictured her a bombshell blonde, not they brunette girl next door Jenna Melone. I had a perfect picture of what she looked like (Amber Heard). I have seen many movies with Jenna Melone and I do like her acting, but I just don’t know how she’s gonna live up to the character of Johanna Mason.
P.s. I really hope that the movie isn’t rated like pg or whatever it was in Hunger games! Especially because that would mean they cut out some very interesting and funny parts! Also Annie Cresta was never shown as a cast member…. I really hope they don’t cut her out because that would ruin Finnick’s image and story in Mockingjay.
Here are the Capitol Portraits that were released a little while back. They are of each of the main characters in the quarter quell/ catching fire. I personally like how they did it,and added the roses! (except a couple things)
Well incase you’ve been living under a rock and have no idea who the new comers are to the second installment of Hunger Games: Catching Fire, here they are! Ok so can I just say that this trailer, this whole movie series is taking to long to happen!? But then again do I really want them to just air instead of dragging it out, because then what would I get excited for?
ANYWAYS I am sooo happy with the turn out of the trailer! It is nice how they gave snippets of different part of the movie without giving away the quarter quell. Watch, cry, love and watch again!
(THIS IS NOT A BOOK REVIEW)
So the trailer begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home ‘safe’ after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyPnQw_Lqds&feature=youtube_gdata_player
